This Is All I Ask

The video for This Is All I Ask has been done by Hugh. I have played the music for it the way I always do. I first play the piece 'as is', recording it as a MIDI file. Then go into Song Creator and change voices to make it an 'orchestral' work .. and use the Mixing Console to get the balances betwee...

Re: Tea for Two

Hi John,

Your friend in Florida is absolutely right of course. By comparison to the rest of the globe, this country is not renowned for extreme weather !! We are, generally speaking, very fortunate weather-wise. So, we complain when it does come along. And that's something we are good at. !!

Re: Tea for Two

Hi John,

Very kind of you to take the trouble to listen and respond. Especially in this really hot weather. I've just been into our kitchen and it's 34 C. Far too hot for me. Think I'll sit and play some Christmas songs. !!! - Once again my thanks , cheers,

Colin.

Re: Tea for Two

Hello Hugh, What can I say. ?? Super. You obviously must have put a lot of hard work into doing this, and I can assure you it's very much appreciated. Certainly not something I know how to do. And as you say, I can now supply family and friends with the necessary details, and hope that they survive ...

Re: Gershwin Medley

Hi Hugh, Thought you might like to know, that your YouTube 'masterpiece' has currently had 124 views. I'm not experienced in the ways of YouTube, so to me, this figure I suspect is very low. ! Nonetheless, I have sent the link to a couple of family members, and a couple of friends, and they all thin...

Re: Gershwin Medley

Hi John,

Glad you enjoyed the movie. I thought that Hugh's work in producing it was brilliant. I have no idea how he does it, but I intend to learn. So, my Tyros 4 and my computer will now be kept busier than ever. Once again thanks for listening and watching. Cheers,

Colin.

Re: Gershwin Medley

Hello Hugh, Although I've extended my personal thanks to you via email, I thought it only right to do the same here. I'm not particularly knowledgeable in the ways of modern day computerised technology, but hopefully sufficient to understand what you've done, and how you've done it. Your work has al...

Gershwin Medley

Gershwin Medley. Song titles are as follows:- ‘Our Love Is here To Stay’ and ‘Summertime’. This is a medley of Gershwin songs which is totally my arrangement and orchestration. No music - purely by ear - no outside apps or programs - my arrangement - actual key changes - and most definitely all my ...

Re: Your objectives when arranging a piece of music to play?

Sorry Torben, I have to disagree. Music, and one's taste in music is 'personal'. In any event, the actual playing ability of the individual is bound to influence what the player plays, and his/her interpretation. There is no 'right or wrong', merely interpretation. It's personal, and most definitely...

Re: Your objectives when arranging a piece of music to play?

Hi Hugh, Thanks for your response. I was hoping to have a response from Torben, but nothing as yet. So, I've taken the liberty of sending here something I've done, which hopefully will demonstrate my point of 'not copying' original arrangements etc. This is a medley of Gershwin songs, which is total...

Re: Your objectives when arranging a piece of music to play?

Hi Torben, Firstly, your view on the playing and interpretation of a song. I readily take your points, but have to disagree overall. Insofar, that many of us very much appreciate the artistry and creativity that a musician can produce, which means, that what we hear is ''The Musician', not just the ...

Re: Songs that change key in the middle, and back again

Here's another one that changes key in the middle (a Medley of two). 'Wave' and ‘Desifinado’ (Slightly Out Of Tune). ' Wave ' has two key changes. ‘ Desifinado ’ - I’ve played this in Eflat, which has a middle 8 in ‘G’. So, both songs come under the banner of ‘changing keys’. Click on the below to h...

Re: Songs that change key in the middle, and back again

There are in fact, quite a number of songs that pass through 2 or 3 key changes. Thus:- ' It Might as Well Rain Until September '. - I normally play it in 'C' and the middle 8 goes through 'Db' and 'D' before returning to 'C'. Here's a YouTube clip of this song. Bobby Vee - It Might As Well Rain Unt...

Re: Songs that change key in the middle, and back again

Hi, I have no idea who I'm replying to, but here goes anyway on the above subject. Nowhere here have I seen a mention of some of those wonderful 'really' old songs of the 20's 30's and 40's, where a number of such songs changed key for middle '8's', thereby bringing in more chord construction, and a...

Re: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

Hi Eddie, - What a superb piece of jazz playing. Super chordwork, and brilliantly phrased. Although the song is not normally associated with up tempo jazz, it came off very nicely. Would love to hear you play it as a soft sentimental ballad. !!! - Colin Leaney (the leans)

Re: YouTab your video performances .... HOT! HOT! HOT!

Hi Mike, I'm amazed at what I've just seen and heard. !!!! - I've had a look and listen of the 'tab' video. And I'm absolutely astounded. I might be very interested in taking the matter further, so I had to get to know what it was all about. So, when playing the 'tabs' version of the video, I relate...

Re: Keyboard Voices

Most high end keyboards these days do have a sequencer that's as capable as the KN7000, though micro-editing of events is not always that easy. For an 18-year old, if you're into synth sounds and dance/rock/pop material, I guess that you'll eventually gravitate to a synth workstation. More modern s...

Re: Keyboard Voices

Hi Mike, Thanks as usual. I suspect the purchase of a sound module is out for me. But, I sent a response to Steve for his input, then forgot to ask him the vital question, which was:- What do I look for in regard to the 'software' that he mentioned. ? Can you possibly point me in the right direction...

Re: Keyboard Voices

Hi Colin I can't comment on your present set up but I'll tell you about my experience with Technics and Yamaha if I may. A number of years ago I traded a Yamaha for the Technics 5000. I found it completely different from the Yamaha keyboards. The keyboard itself, just the feel of the keys and the c...

Re: Keyboard Voices

Hiya Collin, I don't know exactly how old the KN7000 is but it's got to be close to 14 years old if not more, I still like a lot of the voicing on the 7000 and in many respects the sounds hold their own against the more up to-date instruments. Where the latest keyboards score is the way in which yo...

Re: Keyboard Voices

Hi Colin I once had a Technics Keyboard and there was no doubt that the Voices were brilliant, however technology moves on and the sampling techniques has changed dramatically. Hence voices are now far superior on all keyboards. It is now just a matter of personal preference whether you like the Ya...

Keyboard Voices

I've been a Technics fan and player for approx 10yrs now. However, after listening to various recordings from other members, which demonstrate the sampled voices of other keyboards such as Yamaha and Korg etc, I've come to the conclusion that the sampled voices of these makes are generally superior ...
