Re: Hints for when browsing the TDP Forum

Re: Answers to Charles' Hymns Quiz

Hi Tony, Thanks for identifying those. Charles didn't send me a list of the Hymn titles as he said he played these such a long time ago he wasn't sure if he could remember what they all were. So you have come to the rescue here! Charles did 69 of these Hymns so we have quite a few to go yet! I'll wa...

Answers to Charles' Hymns Quiz

Answers to Hymns Quiz Charles says: "The hymns were from an old copy of the Australian Baptist Hymnal I no longer have so I can't help with confirming the names of the tunes or the first lines accurately." Hymn 01: All People that on Earth do dwell (Old 100th) Hymn 02: Thou whose Almighty...

Re: Multitracking

Here is another one that Brian (Brian007) has Multitracked. Listen carefully to the extra bits and counter-melodies he has put in. He says he has done this entirely on the keyboard. ie. he has not used Audacity to do it.

... but purely record stuff for my own pleasure. And for ours! Some people say that when they record they go to pieces and mess it all up. It's the fact that they are recording something that gets them all 'up tight'. Now I get like this if I play in front of other people. I don't play from the she...

Re: His Latest Flame

Right! Get it! An amplifier I once had had one of these. I love bass, so I was able to turn the bass up. And as I didn't have hearing aids in those days then if I felt the higher frequencies were lacking then I could turn those up too. But doing this was only necessary because I was listening to tra...

Re: It's Now-Or-Never

Jon, I did listen to this but was called away and have just noticed I never made a comment. Well, you just have a natural talent for playing anything , and this is no exception. It's the emphasis you put in the various parts of a song, and the way the instruments are played. Great to listen to. Hugh

EQ :?: :?: I have no idea what either of you are talking about! Is this something to do with the 'balance' between the various PARTS of a Style, or how Voices sound? Can you explain please? On my AR I can alter the balance of the PARTS of a Style on screen, and the 'brilliance' of a Voice (ie. make...

Re: King of my Life/Lead me to Calvary

Hi Tony, Thanks for posting this one. It would appear that for all the recordings you have made on the Allen ADC4600 organ you have used the top manual exclusively for non-organ sounds eg. piano. It must be convenient to have another manual set up with a different sound to the other two, then you ca...

Re: Be Still

Hi Tony, Nice piece of music. Not often one sees an electronic organ with three manuals! I see you were able to set the 'tremolo' to 'chorale' (slow) on the bottom manual and 'fast' (tremolo) on the middle one for playing the melody. Can't do that on my AR. It's either all on 'slow'; all on 'fast'; ...

Re: Blessed Assurance

Hi Tony, It's unusual to hear 'tremolo' with a piece like this. Years ago I went with a friend to the Church at Great Mills where they had just had the pipe organ 'restored'. This had a lovely 'vibrato' for all the hymns the organist played, and after the service I went to speak to the organist to t...

Re: The Lord's My Shepherd (Crimond)

Hi Don, Another of your amazing organ pieces. And this time it's Organ and Choir. First we get the trebles & sopranos; and then the tenors and bass singers. That's a really nice 'descant' too. I suppose you could call that a 'counter-melody'. You're a dab hand at putting 'expression' into your p...

Re: O Come All Ye Faithful

Don, I just love the sound of a Church Organ .. and your AR makes you feel you are right there listening to you playing. Now here's another great example of Multitracking, again by Brian (Brian007). True Love Ways Brian has played the main melody with Piano .. but then has 'added in' some strings. Calypso Carol

Calypso Carol I first heard this done with this rhythm at the school where I worked (many years ago). A music teacher from a secondary school nearby had come to help us put together some Christmas Carols for the children to sing, and this was his 'take' on how a 'Calypso' should be played. It was t...

Re: Multitracking

Here is a DEMO by me that is not multitracking. True Love . What I have done in this piece is to play my 'counter harmony' as 'harmony over-the-top' (as I call it), using the right hand to play both the melody and the 'counter harmony'. Rather like when you hear a 'descant' being sung by a choir. Th...

Re: Multitracking

So what is 'multitracking'? It's adding counter melodies and musical 'bits and pieces' after you have done the recording. As I said, it is often difficult to tell if a piece has been multitracked or not as there are ways and means of adding things into the music without having to do what is effectiv...

Brian, This is where my floppy disk system comes into it's own. Re: Getting the best sound out of my Korg Pa.

James, I must confess that when I think of 'sound' from a keyboard I am always thinking about 'voices' and 'combinations of voices'. And I normally listen with headphones. But of course, as you have pointed out, how a keyboard 'sounds' when played 'live' is very important. Particularly when you are ...

Re: Voice Combinations

Obviously discussing 'Voice Combinations' is a topic that could go on for ever. But I think I prefer voice set-ups that are easy to listen to ie. are not too complicated in their structure. So I personally am not keen on 'big band' backings like the ones Frank Sinatra has with his music. This is wha...
