Hymns for Sunday 23/08/2020

Hi I seem to be surrounded by gremlins this week. I had to re-record 2 verses of the first hymn - I wasn't happy with my playing (attempted organ/piano duet again) Verses 1 & 4 survived the cull. When I loaded the additional clips on the video editing computer, I found that the audio had gone AW...

Hymns/Songs for 16th August 2020

Re: Allegro in G major - William Herschel

Thanks for the comments.

I've been interested in the early English organ repertoire for quite a while. Hopefully there'll be more recordings before too long.

Hymns/Songs for 9th August 2020

Hi Another busy week recording for church - 4 hymns/songs this week, plus a proper organ voluntary. 2 of the hymns are multitracked with me playing both organ & piano. I had a few problems with these, partly getting used to a new multi-track recorder, and partly not getting things quite synchron...

Re: Hymns/Songs for 2nd August 2020

I've just checked and all 4 seem to be working OK from the links in my post, and no-one in the church has said they've had any problems.

Hymns/Songs for 2nd August 2020

Hi Another busy week - because our minister is moving house, I've put the whole service together again this week (if you want to see the complete service sheet, just let me know). On top of that, I've had computer problems both with this computer (eventually tracked down to a problem with Word not p...

Re: Hymns/Songs for 26th July 2020

Hi I've just changed the link to the meditation. A friend pointed out a problem with the original piano recording if you tried listening in mono. A couple of hours fiddling and battling "features" of the video edit software I managed to salvage the track, but it's now in glorious mono! Eve...

Re: Free VST - Cakewalk Studio Instruments

Hi Brian Certainly interesting. I've used Steinberg Notator on an Atari computer for MIDI sequencing in the past (that dates me!). Re: Hymns for Sunday 19/07/2020

Thanks John

I've been playing over 60 years no (from my first piano lesson) & playing organ since I was 11, so I've had plenty of practice! On top of that, Dad played piano (by ear) so I guess it's partly hereditary. All my children are musical to some degree.

Re: Hymns/songs for 12th July.

Thanks Hugh

I've actually got next Sunday's music early (our minister is moving house next week). It's all fairly contemporary music this time, and all the congregational stuff will be on piano. I might do a bonus track on organ if I can think of anything that fits (and I can play!)

Hi Ken Some nice sounds there. It's been a long while since I've played that - last time was probably at a funeral. I have posted some tracks again this week, but was rather later than normal finishing them - memory card in camcorder failed, so I had to re-record one track & didn't finish until ...

Thanks John The last song has been around for quite a while - but I hadn't played it since the 1970's. Re: Headphone jackplug adaptors 1/4 inch to 3.8 mm

Hi I also have a couple of pair of headphones with the screw-on adaptor - very useful. The real problem lays in the design of the 1/8th inch sockets - the connection area is just too small for reliability. I wish they'd never been invented, and they certainly shouldn't be used where there's space fo...

Re: Playing the bass pedals on an organ

Hi Melody in the pedals is pretty common in some genres of classical organ music - indeed, I've heard a few theatre organists do it for short passages. I've got a few pieces that I play sometimes that do this. Perhaps the most "fun" one is a Chorale prelude by the great J.S. Bach on the ca...
