Re: Interpreting a piece of music you play

Here's Only You played by John Storey ( JohnS ) on his Tyros 5. This is what I had to say about it on audio.com: John. Another brilliant arrangement! There are some wonderful chords in this piece. Right up my street! Particularly liked the organ voice coming in. I have listened to this six times now...

Re: Setting up/Changing the SPLIT POINT

Here's another song where I have 'jumped across' an R3 SPLIT POINT. I Love You Because . Not quite the chords on any of the sheets of music I have. I have played it in C and have put in a D7 chord before the G7 in the Verse. Have used four STYLES; and made two SPLIT POINTS so I can play an R3 as a '...

Re: Tuning a keyboard instrument.

Having discovered how I could alter the pitch for R1, R2 and R3 on my Tyros 4, I thought I would take a leaf out of Yamaha's book and see how much of a difference it would make with the sound if I 'upped' the pitch of a couple of instruments by +6 . In this piece ( It's Raining In My Heart ) I have ...

Re: Tuning a keyboard instrument.

With Equal Temperament tuning, although the octaves are exactly in tune (Ratio 2:1), all the other notes are 'slightly out of tune' (and some more than others). When notes are 'out of tune' mathematically (ie. they are not in perfect ratios) not only does the ear perceive them as such, but you get '...

Re: Do you include a VOICE with your STYLE?

Brian, You're quite right in your observations. And the clue, too, is in the TITLE of the topic .. Do you include a VOICE with your STYLE? This was played on my AR80, and before I even had a keyboard (I have a Tyros 4 as well now). On an organ you have an UPPER manual and a LOWER manual and you can ...

Re: Can I increase the gain of a recording I made?

As I was saying that a MIDI will only play with sounds it can access on a soundcard (and therefore will only be heard as originally intended in the device it was recorded on), let's try a little experiment. Below is a song played by Den .. Snow Waltz . Den makes his recordings as MIDI files, and he ...

Re: Can I increase the gain of a recording I made?

Brian, Yes, you can Amplify your track. This means basically that you increase the 'gain' by a fixed amount across the board. Which of course makes everything louder . Using this feature you can opt to exceed/not exceed the clipping point. The whole point of NORMALIZE is that you increase the volume...

Re: Can I increase the gain of a recording I made?

JT, I have really upset Den by saying to you NOT to record in MIDI. Den says that when you have bought an expensive Arranger Keyboard then you should make full use of it and do some 'arranging' .. like changing volumes, or voices .. or whatever. You can change absolutely anything you had set up in y...

Re: Tuning a keyboard instrument.

Thanks for that, John. So probably the reason why I could hear that C chord in the post above as being 'out of tune' was because of the 'third' rather than the 'fifth'. Tuning a keyboard instrument.

I'm sure that all of us who play keyboards are aware that the notes we play have certain 'frequencies', and the frequencies form the melodies and harmonies of what we hear.
