Re: New arrival! My 'baby' comes home.

I know what you mean about the size, Mike! My patio door was supposed to have a 30" opening, especially for getting this organ back in one day. I never thought to measure it 15 years ago, but it's only 29". The double glazing company went south long ago, so there was no-one to complain to....

New arrival! My 'baby' comes home.

No, not THAT sort of baby! My Kawai SR6 arrived this morning. Looks and sounds great, just like new. Once she's settled in, I'll hook up my Leslie 760 and see just how Hammond-y those drawbars are. It will be fun re-acquainting myself with the organ I first sketched out on a paper napkin over ...

Re: Fame G2000 Keyboard

Touch screen, programmable this and that, nice - but it seems to have all the sound and style quality of a 10 year old Casio! And a piece of bent wire for a music rack.

Sorry, but this one really does nothing at all for me. 4/10 - and I think I'm being generous.

Re: Broadband Performance

Just went over to Plusnet fibre. Got 74 meg for the first 6 days, it's dropped to 60 now, but still a big improvement over the previous 6 meg. Phone line switched over as well from next week and the total cost is less than I was paying. So far so good, but I'd like to see the 74 meg performance come...

Re: Ray Manzarek of The Doors has died at the age of 74.

I've had students playing Light my Fire over the past few weeks and months. He'll continue to be an inspiration to new generations. RIP Ray.

Re: Roland BK-9 Overview Video (Musikmesse 2013)

Ditto to what Craig just said! Playing live is an art form. Multitracking (whether to produce a finished song or to produce a backing over which to play live) is an art form. They're both different, but equally demanding. Some like one, some like the other, many like both. As for the Musikmesse fair...

Re: Lori Graves NAMM 2013 Rock Medley

It was at first! Mind you, give Lori Graves some credit, as she's plays a mean 'manual' organ, whether electronics or pipes, as shown later in the clip. And remember that demonstrators are paid to demonstrate the features of the product, not necessarily play a concert. How long before Deep Purple's ...

Re: Keyboard Voices

Most high end keyboards these days do have a sequencer that's as capable as the KN7000, though micro-editing of events is not always that easy. For an 18-year old, if you're into synth sounds and dance/rock/pop material, I guess that you'll eventually gravitate to a synth workstation. More modern so...

Re: Glossary Of Musical Terms

The bit on Modes isn't right, though. Here's a bit more information. Examples of what we'd teach as Modes these days: Ionian mode is our major scale - like a C scale from C to C Dorian mode is like a C scale from D to D Phrygian mode is like a C scale from E to E Lydian mode is like a C scale from F...

Re: Midi Volume

No worries Mike, but I think we know that there is a good deal of confusion amongst owners between MIDI playback and audio playback on computers. Perhaps Yamaha and other manufacturers should make it clear in the manuals that MIDI files created on a given keyboard will only work properly on an ident...

Re: Midi Volume

I stick by what I said. You cannot play a MIDI file created on the 950 and expect it to play back properly. It will play , yes, but all you'll get is a low quality approximation of the original sound, together with all the associated problems of low volume etc. Your beautifully crafted blend of the ...

Re: Midi Volume

What are you doing exactly. Are you recording a MIDI song on the keyboard, putting that on a USB stick and expecting the laptop to play it? That won't work, as the MIDI file is note data only and the laptop cannot make the sounds that the keyboard has. You need to record the AUDIO from the keyboard....

Yamaha PSR-S950 ... Andy's Review

I've just spoken with Yamaha and they're going to send me an S950 down for a full review and test. It will cover home use, teaching and gigging over a few weeks. same sort of thing that I used to do for Keyboard Player magazine, but the results will be available here, on a couple of other forums and...

Re: Andy Williams, Moon River singer, dies aged 84

A great singer of some wonderful songs. I remember watching the Andy Williams show as a kid. I recall the opening titles, with him singing 'Almost There' with shots of him in an open top convertible. And who remembers the Cookie Monster from the show? RIP Andy Williams. You leave many, many happy me...
