Re: Music for Wolston Baptist, 3rd Jan 2021

Hi Thanks for the comments (& early birthday greetings!). As to the organ, I wish I could have afforded a 3 manual - the extra keyboard makes things quite a bit easier in terms of registration, and there are pieces that require 3 manuals, notably the infamous Andantino in D flat by Edwin Lemare,...

Music for Wolston Baptist, 3rd Jan 2021

Hi After a hiatus over Christmas (minister wanted to do something different, and I wasn't happy) and illness, including another spell in hospital and Diabetes to add to my ever-growing list of medical issues, I'm recording music for church once again. Here's the first contribution for the new year. ...

Re: Headphones

Hi A couple more comments - I've not had any great problem with sweat buildup when using headphones - Sennheiser are not greatly different to any other maker in that respect in my experience, and at times I've had headphones on for well over an hour when making live. I've also not had problems with ...

Re: Headphones

Hi I have a few pairs of headphones around the place - some I've bought and some my son passed on to me when he replaced them! My main pair are Sennheiser HD280 PRO. Not the cheapest (AROUND £70 iirc) but they sound good and block a lot of external sound (manufacturers claim around -30dB & I can...

Re: Wolston Baptist - music for 6th December

Thanks for the positive comments. Carloss, I've had the Korg piano for a number of years now. It's very basic, just a reasonable 88-note weighted keyboard & a handful of sounds that can only be used individually - no layers or splits. The spec is here: https://www.korg.com/us/products/digitalpia...

Re: Wolston Baptist - music for 6th December

Hi Hugh i have got rather overtired. It looks like the minister wants to use videos with people singing downloaded from YT etc. I have been campaigning about churches taking this sort of approach with pre-recorded stuff rather than live music (unless there is no live musician available), and he's be...

Wolston Baptist - music for 6th December

Hi Here's this week's selection (chosen by our minister) Plus a bonus track for Advent. First up a lively worship song:- DUQKrLySmDs I'd not played that for years! Next up is a Taize song as part of the intercessory prayers - the prayers will appear on screen FeXyOJTrMnc And we close with a relative...

Re: Movie Maker from Windows Live Essentials 2012

Hi I used WMM when I started doing videos - can't beat the price, and I was surprised at how many facilities there were - especially on a free programme. I upgraded to a couple of paid-for programmes, and I'm currently using Adobe Premiere Elements & have downloaded the free starter version of M...

Re: A Winter's Tale (Mustel Harmonium)

Hi Yes, the Mustel is a the "Rolls-Royce" of Harmoniums. They cost about the same as a small house when new! The example I'm playing there belongs to a good friend who hires them out. He'd just finished restoring it, and did me a very good deal on the hire, and left the organ in the church...

Re: Recording Music with Video

Hi If I may make a couple of comments having recorded quite a lot of videos recently! Firstly, if you have audio as a WAV file, keep it in that format - all the video editing programmes I've used accept them, and mp3 is an inferior format (it throws away audio that it thinks won't be heard by the av...

Advent Sunday 2020

Hi I had agreed to do a service for Advent Sunday at Wolston before the latest lockdown - so, thanks to the Covid restrictions, I ended up doing the whole thing - not ideal! The service will be available on You Tube generally from Saturday 6:00 pm. The link below may well work before then! I've also...

Re: Hymns for 22nd November 2020

Hi

I suppose I could do that, but I'm already splitting the output to 2 or 3 cameras, and sometimes also a digital audio recorder, and listening to the output from a camera does at least mean that I'm fairly sure that there are no bad connections.

Re: Hymns for 22nd November 2020

Hi Hugh The headphones have become a necessity. When I started recording these hymns we all thought the covid thing would soon be over, so I just used fairly decent microphones, but of course they pick-up unwanted noises off. I investigated getting a direct output from the organ - there are 4 connec...

Hymns for 22nd November 2020

Hi Just 2 this week. Sunday is the celebration of "Christ the King", so we start with the obvious hymn "Crown Him with many crowns". 17PL7cBgXpU The other recording is a now classic worship song, which I decided to play on organ - "Jesus is King, and I will extoll Him" ...

In the Bleak Midwinter

Hi The last of my "archive" offerings for now. A meditation on the carol "In the Bleak Mid-winter" - one of my favourites, even if, has someone once said, the first first is more about December in North Yorkshire than winter in Bethlehem! Instruments are again my ROland ep760 pia...

The Allen belonged to a good friend. It's a digital theatre organ - hence the percussion stops. Great fun to play. Sadly, my friend sold it about 7 years ago.

Songs of praise service music (15th Nov 2020)

Re: Calypso Carol

Nice playing Hugh, but it's one of the carols I thoroughly dislike! Partly for theological reasons, which I won't go into here, and before that, I've just never taken to it - perhaps that's why I play it a bit faster! You're starting early, although I expect to be recording Christmas music later nex...

Re: Hymns for Remembrance Sunday 2020

Thanks Carloss Spurden-Rutt were a fairly small firm of pipe organ builders, mainly church organs but they also made a handful of cinema organs. Re: Armistice

Hi Ken

Nice accurate performance. I would tend to take it a bit slower (but I do usually play it in church), and you could make more of the dynamics - it starts really soft, then builds & builds, and then drops back to a whisper at the end.

Keep it up.
