Hymns for Remembrance Sunday 2020

Hi Just 2 hymns this week, plus a repeat of a recording I made many years ago on a real pipe organ. (Next week will be a bonanza with, if all goes to plan, no less than 10 hymns/songs for a Songs of Praise service!) Anyway, here's this week's offerings. No Remembrance Day service would be complete w...

Re: Change to holidays plans

Hi Holidays are proving difficult this year! Not managed to get away at all - and probably won't for quite some time as I'm in the clinically vulnerable group and Covid infections are on their way up. GP has advised me to avoid gatherings of numbers of people (so no concerts). I had thought I'd have...

Re: Hymns for All Saints Day 2020 (1st Nov)

Thanks John

Certainly more recordings to come - we were planning a "Songs of Praise" style service in a couple of weeks, which will now go on-line only. Not sure how many hymns that's going to include!

Re: Hymns for All Saints Day 2020 (1st Nov)

Thanks Carloss I'm very aware of the safety issues regarding the Covid situation, as I have several health issues. It was announced yesterday evening that England is going into a 4 week lockdown starting on Thursday (just watch the idiots break the rules before then!). Church will be closed after th...

Hymns for All Saints Day 2020 (1st Nov)

Hi Just 2 hymns for the congregation this week - plus a bonus track. It's been a busy week, what with 2 hospital visits (one for a blood test & the other a research project I'm signed up for), plus an extra visit to church to meet with the organ technician & sort out a fault on my Content 22...

Re: Hymns/Songs for 25th October 2020

Thanks Carloss

I've been fortunate to be able to have afforded these instruments over the past years - it's useful to have a variety of sounds & styles of instruments available.

Re: Hymns/Songs for 25th October 2020

Thanks Jon & Hugh. We use a "blended" style of worship at Wolston and the piano is more appropriate for some of the more modern songs (and some older hymns as well). I play whichever instrument I feel fits the mood of the song/hymn within the context of the service - especially as we h...

Hymns/Songs for 25th October 2020

Hi Another week (a rather fraught one as I had builders in), but I did manage a bit of recording for church. The first hymn is a recording from a few weeks ago. The other 2 congregational pieces I decided to re-record and improve on earlier versions - plus there's a couple of instrumental items to e...

Re: Hymns for Sunday18/10/2020

Hi John Thanks for his. The "Abba Father" setting looks easy, and in the main it is, but there are a couple of places where the left hand quavers don't go where you expect them to. As to my music, I know roughly where things are, but often have to hunt for a half-remembered piece that I kn...

Hi

A little bit of bragging. I also post links to these videos on various Facebook groups, and my video of "Abba, Father" got a heart from the composer. Must be doing something right!

Hymns for Sunday18/10/2020

Hi Half-way through October - Christmas is looming - and I thought these recordings for church would only be needed for a few weeks! Looks like there'll be quite a few more sessions yet. Anyway, here's this week's contributions, including one older recording being recycled! First up is the hymn &quo...

Re: Hymns/Songs for 11th October 2020

Thanks Carloss Debain were a French firm of instrument makers who invented (and patented) the Harmonium - a pressure operated reed organ with the specific disposition of 4 ranks of reeds each in treble & bass halves of the keyboard, and a split at f#-g above middle C. The term "Harmonium&qu...

Hymns/Songs for 11th October 2020

Hi Here's this week's selection - 3 worship songs chosen by the visiting preacher, and a couple of bonus tracks. Hi Shame there's nothing on their front page to indicate what sort of forum it is! I doubt I'll bother - I spend far too much time on the internet as it is! The name "Keyboard Kapers" was the name of a keyboard show I presented on Hospital Radio Hastings for a while many, many years ago. E...

Re: Hymns/Songs for 4th October 2020

Thanks for the comments. The version of "The Day Thou Gavest" has references to snippets of the tune in the first part, plus a couple of passages where part of the melody is soloed. That's quite common with what are often called "Chorale Preludes", among other ways of basing new ...

Re: Hymns/Songs for 20th Sept. 2020

No problem Carloss The squirrels here are the grey variety, introduced from, IIRC, the USA a long way ago, and they've come close to wiping out the native red squirrels, except in a few areas. If they get into property they can be very destructive, chewing mains wiring among other things, and leavin...

Re: Using the TRANSPOSE

I still have nightmares about a big carol service where I used the transpose button - Hark the Herald sounded more like a modernist composer wit...

Hymns/Songs for 20th Sept. 2020

The first 2 sections of the Martin Mans are the (relatively) easy bit. There are several edits in the toccata though! It went pretty well live on Sunday morning - and got a round of applause!

Thanks again

Hymns for Harvest 2020

Hi Here's this week's selection. Since church is reopening, I thought I'd play something a bit challenging to open the service. It's an organ setting of the hymn known in the UK as "How Great Thou Art", by Dutch organist Martin Mans. Great fun, but a bit of a pig to play in places! TArDM6p...

Re: Recording my performance

No reason why not. Try it & see. The limitation may well be the quality of the microphone (unless you're using an external audio adapter).

I've done a couple of recordings on my old iPad when that was all I had around at the time.

Hymns/Songs for 6th September 2020

Hi Here's my weekly contribution of music recorded for Wolston Baptist Church's service tomorrow. First up a fairly modern and distinctly up-tempo worship song. Hi

Thanks for posting.

Steel Guitar is an instrument I'd love to get to grips with. Maybe one day!

That's quite some instrument he's playing. I've seen twin neck pedal steels, but never a quad before. You learn something every day.

Re: Hymns for Sunday 23/08/2020

Hi I spent most of Saturday sorting out the recalcitrant computer. Eventually got the system rest...
