Was this the beginning of the end to our Home Organ Industry?

What do you reckon folks, were these five little 'critters' together with others of the same species responsible for the disappearance of our Home Organ Industry .... or, had the Home Organ business run it's course and just fizzled out?

Would be interesting to hear your views on the subject ... that's if you have any of course

Hello Jørgen,

This advert appeared in the June 1981 edition of the Home Organist magazine, it features the PS-1, 2 & 3 with the PS-10 & PS-20. Yamaha introduce us to the 'Portasounds' towards the end of 1980.

In fact, these two lightweights and three featherweights could be the biggest thing that's happened to music ..... ever!

The author of these few words couldn't have known how true this would turn out to be

Yamaha PS-1 to Tyros 5 Workstation ..... 34 years!

2013 - 1981 = 32 Years...

Certainly one of the nails in the coffin, Mike, and a big nail at that!

I would say that it Screwed the Home Organ industry, without a shadow of a doubt, never mind putting a nail in is coffin

Organ manufactures also have to take some of the blame by adding easy play features, as while it sells instruments to beginners (Look you can play full organ and backing with 2 fingers) users soon start asking the question of why do you need 2 manuals and pedals (Not forgetting an expensive bulky cabinet) when you only need 2 fingers to be a full band. (The Japanese saw this and the Arranger Keyboard was born (Although the actual arranger name didn’t come till later)
