Musikmesse 2013: new exhibition halls for the meeting place for
    the musical-instrument sector

Musikmesse 2013 – live music with concerts and product
    demonstrations

Musikmesse presents the complete value chain – from the idea,
    via the instrument, to sales

The musical instrument sector will get together once again at the
Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main from 10 to 13 April 2013. There,
exhibitors will present the latest products and innovations from the
world of musical instruments, sheet music, accessories and music
marketing. The Musikmesse is the world’s biggest trade fair for
musical instruments and music-making accessories. Over 71,000
visitors from the trade and industry, as well as music lovers,
attended the last event in 2012. On Friday afternoon and Saturday,
Musikmesse opens its doors to the general public, to give amateur
musicians and families the opportunity to see the vast range of over
30,000 musical instruments, and to attend the numerous concerts
    and product demonstrations.

All leading manufacturers and distributors from around 50 countries
and regions are represented at Musikmesse. In 2012, more than
1,500 exhibitors from 50 countries presented products and services
to around 70,000 trade visitors. Thanks to this high degree of
internationality on both the exhibitor and visitor sides, the fair offers
excellent chances for making new contacts with manufacturers,
    dealers and consumers
    .
    New halls in 2013
The halls occupied by Musikmesse will change in 2013. In the
interests of an optimum layout and shorter walking distances for
visitors, the halls occupied will focus on the Agora, the main square
at the Exhibition Centre. Thus, woodwind, brass and harmonica

    Musikmesse
Frankfurt am Main, 10 to 13 April 2013
instruments will be located in Hall 4.1, which has a direct link to the
Via Mobile and is next door to Hall 3 where string instruments will
be positioned (Hall 3.1) in the immediate vicinity of sheet-music
publishers and acoustic guitars. Visitors will find electric guitars
and basses plus accessories in Halls 4.0 and 3.0. As a result of
these changes, exhibitors of the Musikbiz segment will be relocated
to the Lounge of the Musikbiz Lounge & Congress in ‘Saal
Harmonie’ of Congress Centre Messe Frankfurt, which adjoins Hall
    5.1.

An overview of the product groups and their new locations:
Hall 4.1 - wind: Brass and woodwind instruments, accessories
Hall 3.0 - pickup: Electric guitars, electric basses, amplifiers,
    accessories
Hall 3.1 - bow: String instruments, accessories
Hall 5.1 / Exhibitors of the Musikbiz segment,

    Musikmesse as an event
Musikmesse is not only a business platform but also a music event,
and is aimed at both trade visitors and consumers. For the first time,
there will be an additional day open to the public at Musikmesse
2013 – to give music lovers an extra opportunity to visit the fair,
Musikmesse will open its doors to them from 14.00 hrs on the Friday
    afternoon (12 April 2013).

With this change and special ticket offers, Musikmesse is aiming
especially at school students and private individuals who want to visit
the fair on a weekday. In accordance with tradition, the fair opens to
the general public on the Saturday (13 April 2013). On these two
days, consumers can make direct contact with manufacturers and try
out the complete spectrum of musical instruments. On the Saturday,
they can enjoy also the multi-faceted programme of events with
concerts, workshops, autograph sessions and product
demonstrations. On this day, the ‘star density’ is much higher than
during weekdays, and numerous international and national stars give

    Musikmesse
Frankfurt am Main, 10 to 13 April 2013
demonstrations of their skills and present the latest product
innovations on the Musikmesse stages and the exhibitors’ stands.

    Awards ceremonies and events
Besides offering a comprehensive overview of the sector,
Musikmesse is a high-profile platform at which the sector presents
awards for products and the people ‘behind’ the products. The fair is
opened by the PRG Live Entertainment Award, which is given to the
people behind the scenes of concert tours and stage shows. During
this glamorous evening event in the ‘Festhalle’ of Frankfurt Fair and
Exhibition Centre, stars who generally stand in the limelight will
present the awards to colleagues who normally remain out of the
    public eye.

Initiated by the Federal Association of German Musical Instrument
Manufacturers (Bundesverband der Deutschen MusikinstrumentenHersteller e. V. - BDMH) and Messe Frankfurt, the renowned
Frankfurt Music Prize is presented during Musikmesse for
outstanding achievements in interpretation, composing, musicology
    and music teaching.

Another important award is the German Musical Instrument Award,
which spotlights the instruments of the year. In 2013, the German
Musical Instrument Award, which is given by the German Ministry for
Economics and Technology, will go to instruments in the categories
baritone horn with cylinder valves and E-flat clarinet.

    Promoting young people
Musikmesse helps promote music making and education among
young people with a number of activities. One of the events in this
segment is Music4Kids. This participatory exhibition, at which
children can try out musical instruments and acoustic installations for
themselves, offers an active introduction to music making and the
world of sound. Music4Kids, which has developed into the world’s
biggest event of its kind with around 8,000 children a year, will open
its doors to school classes and kindergarten groups on 8 April 2013.

    Musikmesse
Frankfurt am Main, 10 to 13 April 2013
All Musikmesse visitors can see Music4Kids for themselves on the
Saturday when the fair opens to members of the public.
An event for more ‘advanced’ youngsters is the final round of the
SchoolJam competition in which school-student bands perform for
the title of ‘Germany’s Best School Band’ on the Saturday of the fair.
On a professional stage, the eight finalists have to demonstrate their
abilities to a jury made up of musicians, journalists and other experts
    from the music sector.

The entire music value chain at the same place
In five exhibition halls, Musikmesse presents instruments,
accessories and services for the music sector. With everything
ranging from classic instruments, acoustic and electric guitars and
basses, brass and woodwind instruments, percussion and keyboards
to electronic equipment, computer hardware, software and
harmonica instruments, as well as sheet music, specialist literature,
services for music-marketing and sales, musicians’ platforms,
content aggregators and courses of instruction for musicians.
Musikmesse covers the complete spectrum from the idea, via
making music, to listening to music on records or on the internet. In
other words, Musikmesse visitors can discover the entire value chain
from instruments and sheet music to labels and music marketing and
    sales.

For many products and services, there is no longer an unequivocal
boundary between consumers and professional / rental users,
especially in the fields of studio engineering, studio software,
microphones and effects. These products are used both in home and
professional studios. Account has been taken of this situation by
holding Musikmesse concurrently with the Prolight + Sound trade
    fair.

Holders of admission tickets to the Musikmesse are entitled to attend
Prolight + Sound and vice versa. The admission price also includes
2nd class travel on local public-transport services operated by the
    Musikmesse

    and then.
