Hi ALL,

Just a quick update, the beast from the east has lived up to its expectations , a woke to 3 inches of snow this morning and counting
plus more set for wednesday and thursday, I think we should stop all the importing of snow from Russia as they are not in the EU ?

Stay safe, Brian007 :D :D

Lovely sunny day here in Weston. Just going to walk the dog. Have my short sleeved shirt on and am considering whether or not I shall need a coat .. it's really warm in the sun. I have an electronic 'weather station' which says it is 18.7oC inside and 4.9oC outside (there is a thermometer outside and it reads that .. using bluetooth?) so I probably will need my coat and scarf. Find that very useful when I am going out (the thermometer outside).

I didn't use the Character Map for my degrees .. I used the [sup] from along the top of the posting box. I introduced the [sup] so we could write music chords like this:

Eb, C7, Fmin, C+, F6 etc.

And if you are a mathematician, you can do 42 =16, 25 = 32 etc.

Hugh

Hi Just a short distance away from Brian already cleared the drive and road twice. Takes us both just over half an hour. Running out of space to put it. More in the sky. John

Hi ALL,

Just arrived back from chester-le-street , the bus driver said it was chaos, with cars stuck all over the place on the way into Newcastle
and all the buses running late, got enough supplies to last till Friday now , so not to worried as long as the phone and the electric stay on

We have had a 'flurry'of snow this morning. I would probably call it a 'Polar Bear's Wedding'( :?: ), as the sun was shining at the same time as it was snowing. When I was at school in East Africa, our classroom overlooked a wood. When it rained and the sun shone at the same time the monkeys in this wood would go berserk and swing from branch to branch, whilst chattering nineteen to the dozen. We called it a "Monkey's Wedding". Never heard this expression before or since.

I don't believe this! I have done a Google Search for 'Monkeys Wedding' and have come up with this:
In South African English, a sunshower is referred to as a "monkey's wedding", a loan translation of the Zulu umshado wezinkawu, a wedding for monkeys. In Sudan, the donkey and monkey are getting married. In various African languages, leopards are getting married.

So I have learnt something today. Where that expression comes from.

Hugh

Just a quick update on the weather, snow snow and yet more snow today, can't imagine many getting to work today at least not up where I live
2-3 of snow and Ice on the main road through our small village with the wind whipping it up looks we have had about 8-9 inches in total in the last
24 hours and forcaster say more on the way, may need Red Cross food drops by the weekend,

At least it means I can spend some time on the keyboard and not feel to guilty about it as as there is nothing else to do today

Hi

Here in Rugby there was some snow yesterday, but after mid-morning it didn't lay and most of the overnight fall had melted. There's been a small amount again overnight. We stocked up yesterday on a few things that were getting a little low, so we're set until after the weekend. Music room is a bit chilly though. Just hope we can get out to church on Sunday (about 8 miles out in the country).

Every Blessing

Tony

Hi. More snow in Chester-le-street. Schools closed no grandchildren to take. Just cleared the road outside house but it started to hailstone and thunder and lightning. Very strange. Back in where it’s warm having oxo and cheese scone. John

Hi brian

We had about 3 inches of snow overnight and temperatures of -5.

It must be the Global Warning.

What did we do when we were young, when every household did not have three cars.

WALK

As a society we have certainly changed. If you fell over on the Ice you just accepted it, NOW you prosecute the local authority.

Blizzard conditions here now. About 2" of snow on the ground. I'm well stocked up and have no intention of leaving the bungalow. Popped a disc out on Monday. (Again!) Very painful. .. Fred

Hi

A bit more snow here in Rugby overnight, and it's snowing a little now. So far we seemed to have avoided the worst of the weather - but it is very cold. Central Heating is struggling a little to keep the temperatures up.

Keep safe - we don't have to go out now until Sunday - just hope the roads are clear! We stocked up on shopping on Tuesday morning.

Just heard that the suppliers are coming to fit our new garage door tomorrow - I don't envy them working outside in this weather!

Every Blessing

Tony

Hi All

We will be alright as long as the electric, gas and phone stay on,
just come back in from walking the dog, no polar bears but just seen a bus :D :D

Our local bank was closed yesterday because not enough staff could get in to open the branch
I only know this cause they sent me an email .

Safe safe everyone

Hi All. We have just spent an hour clearing snow don’t know whether it’s worth it. Nowhere to put it. Fed the birds they are eating all day. Snow nearly over wellies in parts. Oxo and cheese scones now. Keep warm, John

My boss finally closed the college today and it's closed again tomorrow. She kindly reminded staff we all have access to the network and emails so work should carry on as normal from home. Pretty difficult when the students aren't here. but never mind.

Running out of supplies and no beer in. Will need to do a supermarket run tomorrow. Looks like a fine weekend.

Take Care.

Hi Steve,

No good running out of Beer ? I just wonder what will be on the supermarket shelves when we go, looks like transport has had a hammering so with the weather so supplies could be low ?

Hope your right about the weekend being a bit better , it doesn't seem as cold here as it has been , unless I am getting used to it, ?
A good sign this morning as the buses are running ?

Take care , Brian007

Hi

Doesn't look like any more snow overnight here - but the A45 a mile or so away is closed due to snow according to local radio. Just had a phone call from garage door firm - they're going to see what the roads are like, but may not be able to get here. We shall see.

Music room has been too cold to play for more than 15 mins or so the last few days - not good.

Every Blessing

Tony

Hard to judge how deep it is as the wind is constantly moving the snow into drifts. Guesstimation. ....................... about 4" Seems to be thawing now. .. Fred
