40 Miles of Bad Road

Postby MARGARETD » 27 Jun 2018 21:14

"Forty Miles of Bad Road" was recorded by Duane Eddy in 1959.
I had a bit of fun playing this using the “layering” technique. A sort of 'multi-tracking'. On the AR you can record the Lower and the Upper separately.
You will hear I have done this when the harmonica voice comes in, which I have recorded over the initial tune.
In other words, I was listening to the original tune and 'adding' the harmonica into the recording by playing the other manual.

Hi Margaret,

Well played! Thanks for explaining how you got those two very different parts of the song playing together. It's always interesting to think up extra 'bits' you can put into a song, and then work out how you're going to do it. On the AR you only have one opportunity to put in something different, but on the modern keyboard you can 'multitrack' several 'layers' over the top of your main recording.

I have found this version of this song on YouTube. Not one by Duane Eddy, but another guitarist. Why this one? To me, It's all about the music and some of those early recordings of Duane Eddy playing it are not very good to listen to! This recording has a great sound.
