A traditional folk song from the Bahamas

Postby Brian007 » 13 Oct 2018 06:54

Hi All,

Also known as "The John B. Sails" or Sloop John B. after the 1966 folk rock adaptation by the Beach Boys, played on the KorgPa700 with a little help from the Yamaha MX49 Synth.

Hi there Brian,
This number was played a lot in it's day I enjoyed your performance of it well played and voiced my good friend. :D :D :D

Hi there I have played from the age of 13 and all my music is played in a sort of dance tempo style. Have worked in nearly all the North East clubs over the years. That give me a good grounding. Cheers.

Hi Brian,

You certainly got that 'Beach Boys' sound for this one. I always did like the Beach Boys so this has brought back many memories.

Just wondering how you actually do a recording when two instruments are involved, as this one is in Mono (or rather, two-track Mono) rather than Stereo?

Hugh
It's all about the music. Yamaha AR 80 Player.

Hi Hugh,

This was a tricky piece to play and record,

I had set the keyboard to sync start so the moment I play a chord the accompaniment starts ,

I then played the 5 note intro with my right hand, and with my left start the pad playing the guitar riff, and then with my left play then first chord
and after that its just playing as normal, the synth voice was added by feeding the audio out of the MX49 into the guitar input on the Korg and recording it while
my previous recording was playing back ? so there you go a quick how to guide on recording to two different instruments onto my Korg Pa700.

Hi George,

Thanks for listening and pleased you enjoyed my trip down memory lane, must admit that music was not as complicated back in the sixties and is a lot
easier to play than a lot of the more modern music, especially on a keyboard and using auto accompaniment
