Neil Sedaka playing Amarillo

Postby Hugh-AR » 02 Mar 2017 15:51

(Is This The Way To) Amarillo was a song written by Neil Sedaka, but taken on by Tony Christie and released as a single in 1971. He then re-released it in 2005 to raise money for Comic Relief, when it became a No: 1 hit in the UK. In 2006, the song was played at the World Cup Final in Berlin and was also played by the Central Band of the Royal British Legion on Centre Court at Wimbledon before the start of the Men's Singles final.

But the version I know best is the original one by Neil Sedaka, which he released in 1977. Here he is singing it at the Royal Albert Hall, and showing off his talents as a classical pianist. And in this clip, Tony Christie joins him on stage and they do a bit of vocal harmony together.

I have put this up as jackoj has put up a superb version of this song in the Performance Board (no doubt based on the original Tony Christie version):
