Here is Gerry Rafferty's tribute to his close friend, artist John Byrne who signs all of his paintings as Patrick.
Watch the video and you will be surprised at the number of LP covers he painted.
I have said before that I lived next door to Gerry Rafferty growing up as young teenagers together.
We were on good terms but not great friends, he was a couple of years older than me and was a Roman Catholic.
As is the case in Scotland, catholics and protestants go to different schools and your closest pals tend
to be your classmates.
I think Gerry was a very introverted and sensitive person and wrote some beautiful songs. He went on to make it
big with Stealers Wheel and then solo with his biggest hit being Baker Street.
He wrote this song when he was in the duo, "The Humblebums" who's other member did not too badly either. (Billy Connolly)
from 1969 the song is entitled " Patrick"
