Just before Christmas Bronwyn and I did a train trip up to Lincoln with a visit to the Christmas Market included, but it was so busy we went to Lincoln Cathedral instead. Sitting in the choir stalls, I picked up two hymn books with music, which were obviously the ones the choir used. One was Hymns Ancient and Modern, New Standard, and the other The New English Hymnal. So I flipped through and found O Come All Ye Faithful in each hymn book. Neither had the 'skip'.
Then later, as we were wandering round the Cathedral, a children's choir arrived, with their organist (weren't we lucky?). And they sang O Come All Ye Faithful. The organist was superb, and the bass pipes really reverberated within the church. Wonderful! And when we got to the bit where the 'skip' was (or wasn't) I couldn't really hear what the choir were singing as most of the congregation put that little 'skip' in. So I asked the lady next to me, who's daughter was in the choir, to ask her, "Did they do a 'skip'?" Well, I shall never know the answer to that one!
Tony (Newnham). Perhaps you can clear up this one. Was my Aunt right?
