Ken. You really are a dab hand at playing classical pieces. I noted that when the choir kicks in, there is a descant going on. These are definitely notes that are played 'above the melody' and it gives a nice addition to it. Harmony 'over the top', as I would say. Hugh

Thanks Hugh. That piece in particular lends itself to harmonising. If I can hit on some beautiful ones it makes my (remaining) hair stand on end regards Ken

Morning all.
Took wife to hospital yesterday for Review. Sad. Still am taking this short opportunity to submit something.
Thought I would give you another dose of classical music. This is Bach's Ariosa. I also include an Utube version from where I had my inspiration to try it. regards Ken
Hi Ken, Ariosa. Very nicely played and voiced. Brian

Ken. It's great to have some 'classical' pieces to listen to. I do like (some) classical music. It's just that I can't play any of it. So it's refreshing to hear something completely different. I wonder what Bach would have thought of having 'drums' in his piece? Hugh

Hi!
I would like to submit this unusual piece by Tchaikosky. Andante Cantabile. Its not to everybody's taste but please humour me regards Ken
You are expanding my knowledge of classical music. Last week I went to see my cousin in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo. Choir and orchestra. My cousin sings bass in the choir in Westminster Abbey, and this was a tour he is singing in. You played a piece called Orpheus in Music from Operas and I thought that was what I was going to hear. But of course Orpheus is by Offenbach and L'Orpheo is by Monteverdi, so not the same music at all. I would call L'Orpheo the 'Tierce-de-Picardie Opera' as it was all in a minor key interspersed with 'major' chord endings.

Hi! Hope you don't mind Tony but I am posting my version of Trumpet Voluntary. Yours was great !! This is an effort to keep things moving Ken
Hi Ken. One thing I like about classical music is that you get a proper structured bass line. When you have melodies in the bass it forms an integral part of the piece. Nicely played. Hugh

Hi!.
Here is a piece you will recognise ( I hope ) It's Etude in E Maj by Vivaldi. regards Ken
Ken. Is this the Chopin "Fantasie" Impromptu, Op. 66 in C# minor? Thought that was a piano piece. Hugh

Hi Hugh I believe you are correct. I interpret these pieces in my own way so don't be surprised at the voicing. Ken

Right! Next question. Did you actually play it in C# minor? You probably did, as it was written for C# minor .. and according to this posting if you played it in any other key it would not sound as it should. Although to be honest I'm not sure I could tell the difference.
I am feeling a bit sombre tonight so have dug out this piece I recorded ages ago. It's the 2nd movement from Beethovens Moonlight Sonata. Hope its not too whatever for you. Ken
Now, not knowing much about classical music, that was not what I was expecting to hear. I used to play the Moonlight Sonata on the piano, and it wasn't that. But I suppose the clue is in your comment that went with it. I presume what I am thinking of is the 1st movement .. and you are playing the 2nd. As you say, a bit sombre.

Here is my contribution, a composition by Debussy, in the flavour of Tomita. This is called 'Snowflakes are dancing' played using VST instruments.
Enjoy!

Chris,
The way you have put this piece together is truly amazing! You have made my day! Thanks for posting.
This is what Chris has to say about his piece:
Using VST instruments and Cubase to put this one together. I can tell you, it was not easy. I know it's not 100% the same as how Tomita played it, but I tried! I used a Moog modular and Mini VSTi for the strings and bell sounds, and a variety of free synths to fill it out.
We look forward to you posting more Tomita/Debussy tribute pieces soon.
Hugh

Hi! Chris. A well thought out and put together presentation. Thanks. A load of high tech gear there. Is that you in the corner pic. A long time ago I used to sequence with an Atari ST loading Notator Took me a year getting my head round it. Eventually it packed up and I never updated. So, interested in just playing these days. Perhaps one day i will go back to it but its so time consuming . How long did that piece take you? Interested in what version Cubase you using and how do you rate it?. regards Ken

Hi! Here is a piece by Chopin. Nocturne in E Flat . regards Ken.
Ken. Another well known Classical piece. Complete with a rhythm. We had Tim Flint at our club concert this week, and he played some Mozart with a very heavy drum rhythm. He sounded rather like the London Philharmonic Orchestra and one of their 'Hooked On Classics' numbers. He said that if Mozart had had a drummer he would definitely have used him. Anyway, very relaxing, and thanks for posting. Hugh
