Crimond - Psalm 23

Postby DonW » 01 May 2018 08:00

Psalm 23 is generally known in English by its first verse, "The Lord is my Shepherd".
A metrical version of the psalm is traditionally sung to the hymn tune Crimond, generally attributed to Jessie Seymour Irvine.
This version, with its opening words "The Lord's My Shepherd", is probably the best known amongst English-speaking congregations.

Hi Don That one takes me back well over 50 years when I was in the church choir at Bournmoor and the organist a Mr. Fennell. Happy days. I think your choir was a shade better than us. Loved the organ sound and this tune is a particular favourite and had me singing along. John

Hi Don,

This tune has always been a favourite of mine, and you have played it beautifully! Love the descant sung by the choirboys towards the end .. and your magnificent 'organ solo' following it! Lovely 'quiet' ending with the choirboys. Quite a contrast! Thanks for sharing this with us.
