Help me make it through the night

Postby enjfb » 08 Sep 2014 12:24

Hi Everyone,
Here is my version of this classic song

Help me make it through the night
https://app.box.com/s/anolbe21wdf84mon01zx

I use only a guitar for the backing. I have acoustics Guitar on my Mac which is a software guitar made form many gigabytes of samples and I played it from T5. You play chords with left hand and control the strums with right hand. For this song I used a very simple strum pattern. Bass note on first beat, down and up strum on 2nd beat, 5th of chord on 3rd beat and down and up strum on 4th beat. It is the first pattern I learned when learning guitar. You can control the number of strings which are strummed. I used 6 strings for down strums most of the time and just top few strings for up strums but I did vary this as I played. Also I varied the position on the guitar the chord was played.

I did do this live playing the guitar and singing which made it difficult so the result is a bit like a novice guitar player hahahah. You can play more sophisticated patterns with hammer ons etc but I need more practice for this.

Hope some of you enjoy it.

Best Regards
Jim

Not a bad vocal Jim and well done for the technical guitar playing which will no doubt improve with more practice. I often wish that I had been given a singing voice :(

Hi Ron,
Thanks for listening and for your very nice comments. I think the guitar does sound very authentic. The advantage of the software is that you get the correct guitar voicing - meaning the position of the notes on the guitar - when playing a chord. How the chord is played is determined by the player with lots of control.

Best Regards

Hi Mike,
I am pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for your very nice comments - always appreciated.

I used to play this song when learning guitar so I thought it was a good choice to give the keyboard guitar strumming a go.
I hope to be here more often from now on.

Best Regards
