Brian Sharp - Organist and Pianist.

Postby Hugh-AR » 29 Mar 2022 16:49

Many years ago I went to see Brian Sharp play in Bristol. He was not too good on his legs in those days and told us that we wouldn't see his feet playing the pedals as he had pre-recorded the bass part using the lower manual of the organ .. but he assured us that everything we heard was him playing.

Don Wherly (DonW, who plays a Yamaha AR100 organ) has found this video of Brian Sharp playing and passed it on to me to put up.

Brian Sharp plays Glamorous Nights on the Sandford Park Compton.

Brian was one of the most enigmatic characters I ever met. I attended a festival at Sandford park where he gave one of his best performances. His first performance at Bristol was riotous. He disappeared during the interval and was eventually found in the local pub. He was certainly different. He went downhill when his marriage broke up. So sad for such a lovely man. Ken S.

How observant are you? What is strange about the first part of the video where Brian Sharp plays piano? Go take another look and tell me what you see.

Hi

Looks like some of the piano shots are taken via a mirror.

Tony,

That's what I reckoned .. the video has been reflected. I didn't notice it the first time round, but as I was watching what his fingers were doing his left hand was moving to the left as the notes went up; and his right hand played notes over to the far right for the bottom bass notes and his fingers moved to the left as the accompaniment moved upwards.

Then when he got onto the organ everything was the right way round .. and you could see the word Christie over the top of the organ, clearly the letters were the right way round.
