PSR 9000 microphone set up help needed ...please

Hello to all, I'm wondering if any of you guys/gals can offer a non "technical" guy some help on setting up a microphone for vocals on my recently acquired PSR 9000 keyboard.
I have recently purchased a good quality "mic" and I've tried to fathom out how to set it up and change the parameters.
I have managed to create dreadful feedback but little else !!
I would truly appreciate a few pointers to it me on the right track.

Not a singer myself but your problem sounds like feed back, also not familiar with your keyboard but here is a link to the manual and start at page 56

Hi Brian (007).... Many thanks for your input, the "MIC" problems now sorted...
I initially had a "feedback"problem,but got that sorted by repositioning the "mic stand"
Then I went into the microphone set up and managed to get everything to balance up very nicely.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the update, most feedback problems are caused by proximity issues, basically the mike to close to speakers,
mikes have improved a lot since I last used one back in the 60s and some are supposed to have feedback cancelling built into them
