Away In A Manger

Away In A Manger

The standard melody in England is "Cradle Song", and the tune was written by the American composer William J. Kirkpatrick in 1895.

I have recorded this in 'two takes'. I can record the Lower and Upper (and Pedals if need be) separately on my AR organ.

First time round, on the Lower I have used a Style and played chords with the left hand to the left of the split, and with an Orchestral Clarinet played a counter melody with the right hand to the right of the split. And sung the melody out loud whilst doing this so I knew where I had got to (glad you couldn't hear that!).

Second time round (the easy bit) I have played the melody with a Pan Flute on the Upper whilst listening to what I had recorded on the Lower. This is similar to 'multi-tracking' on a keyboard.

The middle verses are organ; and organ and choir.

Hi there I have played from the age of 13 and all my music is played in a sort of dance tempo style. Have worked in nearly all the North East clubs over the years. That gave me a good grounding. Cheers.

Hi Hugh,

I enjoyed that as it had a very traditional sound and feel to it as the way it was originally meant to be heard

All the best, Bria007
