Thanks Brian for putting that up. Why do they always do these DEMOS with piano? The piano is one instrument you cannot emulate on a keyboard, no matter how hard you try. Why not?

If you are a pianist you will know how a piano produces it's sound. There are 'dampers' on the strings that prevent them vibrating, and when you 'play' a note the damper lifts off the string so when the 'hammer' hits it the string will vibrate. On a piano you also have a 'loud' pedal (the one on the right). This lifts all the dampers off all the strings.

Now, if you play a chord without having the 'loud pedal' down, what you hear is just those notes. However, if you have your foot down on the 'loud' pedal and play the same chord you will not get the same sound. This is because without the dampers, other strings will vibrate along with the notes you are playing, giving a far richer overall piano sound. So the 'loud' pedal is not a 'sustain' pedal that just keeps the note going when you take your finger off the note. It does more than that. When playing a piano you would use the 'loud pedal' to enrich the sound where you wanted it, much in the same way as you would continually be using the 'expression pedal' when playing an organ.

Anyway, I'm not impressed by the piano DEMO in this video!
