Hymns for Sunday18/10/2020

Postby Rev Tony Newnham » 16 Oct 2020 09:23

Hi

Half-way through October - Christmas is looming - and I thought these recordings for church would only be needed for a few weeks! Looks like there'll be quite a few more sessions yet. Anyway, here's this week's contributions, including one older recording being recycled!

First up is the hymn "Rejoice, the Lord is King", the tune written by George Frederick Handel no less - one of 3 hymn tunes he wrote for the then new Methodist hymns.

Next up is a worship song, written by Graham Kendrick (who is quite well known, and appears on Songs of Praise at times) and Chris Rolinson, who was a significant figure in the Christian music scene a few decades ago, but is rarely heard of these days.

The older recording is "Brother, Sister, let me serve you"

The "bonus" track is a short organ Pastorale on the tune of the worship song "Abba Father". Composed by Dutch organist Martin Mans.

Enjoy

Every Blessing

Tony

P.S. Looks like I need to tidy my music room!

Pleased to listen, observe the technique and learn the history of each song on display at YT. I became a constant fan of the Reverend's Hymns. 8)

Hi

A little bit of bragging. I also post links to these videos on various Facebook groups, and my video of "Abba, Father" got a heart from the composer. Must be doing something right!

Hi Tony Another lovely selection and enjoyed my listen. New the first three and particularly like Rejoice. High praise indeed from the composer. Do you ever compose any music? I am always tidying my small collection of music but I bet you know where everything is. Keep safe. John

Hi John

Thanks for his. The "Abba Father" setting looks easy, and in the main it is, but there are a couple of places where the left hand quavers don't go where you expect them to.

As to my music, I know roughly where things are, but often have to hunt for a half-remembered piece that I know I've got somewhere. I'm planning on sorting some of it out before too long.

Every Blessing
