Our garden in N.Z. Onze tuin in Nieuw-Zeeland 2010

Postby dentyr » 21 Aug 2021 13:32

Just thought that I would put this together for fun.

Lot of work but was fun, Sorry about the black bars but all those pix were taken with my old camera. I did ask the program to eliminate them (the black bars that is) but it seems that the export was set to 16:9 and I made the video at 4:3 Looks OK in VideoPad. :D
Very strange, Check it out on YouTube and it is in 4:3 format, no black bars.
Regards Den.

Hi Den Loved looking at the photos of your flowers. The daffodils etc. Liked that unusual yellow one. The music was nice not one I know. Hugh did pictures of my garden on the site which I was pleased about. Keep safe and well. All the best. John

Hello Ken, I think that this is a Kowhai Flower. Nice tree, not sure if it is native to Nieuw Zeeland. It stood beside our outside room. Thanks for your post. Regards, Den.

Den,

That video was just amazing! Well worth the time spent on it. And the music you played was quite something too. Is this the new you? I have noticed that you followed your own instructions for putting Subtitles into a video using VideoPad. They have come over perfectly (it's all to do with the timing?).

Thanks for posting.

Hugh

PS. I have watched your video on YouTube itself, and as you say. there are no black bars as it is showing in 4:3 format. This must be something to do with the programming for showing Embedded Videos in our Forum .. ie. it shows in 16:9 format however the original video is done.

Den,

You're very observant! Re: The black bars showing in your embedded video (as it is showing it in 16:9); and no black bars when watching it directly on YouTube (as YouTube is showing it as 4:3, the format you did the MP4 in as your photos were 4:3).

The Embedded Video is in your original post, above (scroll up to find it); and the direct link to watching it on YouTube is:

Do a right-click to open this up in a New Tab.
https://youtu.be/y_tl79DyUiI

A while ago I did a video for Les Harber (lesh) (Llanidloes & The Fjords) from photos he sent me .. which were 4:3. The embedded video put up by Les is here (in Holiday Experiences):

Do a right-click to open this up in a New Tab.
http://www.tierce-de-picardie.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=416&t=7579

Although the initial frontage of the embedded video is 16:9, once it starts playing all the photos are 4:3 so you get the black bars running through it right from the start.

If you watch his video on YouTube itself there are no black bars as YouTube are showing it in 4:3.

Do a right-click to open this up in a New Tab.
https://youtu.be/iPtfL2-9S9E

Den .. I said you were very observant because I have never noticed what was happening to Les's video until I checked it out just now. So this must be caused by our BBCode for YouTube? :?:

I'll see if I can create another BBCode for YouTube to use specifically for 4:3 videos so it doesn't show black bars.

Hi all,

You will have seen the 'black bars' on either side of Den's video. When Den created the video he did it as a 4:3 video, and the black bars have appeared because our Forum puts Embedded videos in as 16:9 (the norm these days, with widescreen television etc.).

You may have noticed (or you may not have noticed) that there are now two BBCodes for doing YouTube videos. They both work in the same way (ie. insert the letters and numbers after youtu.be/ in between the youtube BBCodes in square brackets), but the second one, youtube2 is specifically for 4:3 videos.

So here is what Den's video looks like when using the youtube2 BBCode.

No black bars!

And here is the one done by Les using the youtube2 BBCode.

Again, no black bars when you watch it as an embedded video.

    '

Well, a couple with black bars as those photos were taken in Portrait mode rather than Landscape mode.
