A Folk song from the Appalachian Mountains.
My own keyboard arrangement where I venture into introducing a couple of variations of my own to this well known tune which tells the story of a young lady spurned by a false hearted "gentleman"

On top of old Smokey, all covered in snow
I lost my true lover , for courting too slow.
For courting's a pleasure, and parting is grief
And a false hearted lover, is worse than a thief.
For a thief will just rob you, And take what you have.
But a false hearted lover will turn you to the grave.
And the grave will decay you,
And turn you to dust. Not one man in a million
A poor girl can trust.
