Fairy Tale of New York

Postby Ron » 01 Dec 2023 18:02

This song was composed between 1985-87 by Shane Mac Gowan and recorded by him when he was part of the punk group The Pogues.
He died yesterday and this is in his memory.

Ron

Lyrics

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me, won't see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you
Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you

So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true
Twin setup: Tyros 3 and Yamaha Piaggero NP-11
Fretless Bass, Fender Bass amp: BXR300C, Trace Elliot Commando 100W

Hi Ron Always like this one. Enjoyed your version and use of sounds. I have the music it seems difficult to play must give it a try. I like many thought the words said Cafe down Whitley bay. Sad that he has passed away. John

Hi Ron

A brilliant cover of that classic Christmas song, you really captured the feel of the piece and the voices you choose really worked well
Such a shame that the pair of them have both been taken far to early

Hi there I have played from the age of 13 and all my music is played in a sort of dance tempo style. Have worked in nearly all the North East clubs over the years. That gave me a good grounding. Cheers.

Hello Ron, Did not know this but like it very much. Sounds very Scottish in the second part. Would not even try to play it, too complicated for me. Thanks for posting. Regards, Den.
