A request - Myfanwy.

I would like to hear members play Myfanwy. Thought by many to be the greatest love song ever written. So sad. Ken S.

Hi Ken. I remember GeorgeR finding a version of this on the site. On the search I typed it in and it comes up with that and How Great Thou Art. A good listen. John

Comment from Hugh (TDP ADMIN).
This is what John is referring to.
Bryan Hereford playing his Technics Kn7000 and Tyros.
It's him playing the backing for the singer, so how he managed to 'sync' his playing with the voice is a technical miracle!
Quote from Bryan Hereford:
Myfanwy Is a Welsh song and was composed by Joseph Parry in 1885. How great thou art is Christian hymn and was written by Carl Gustav Boberg in Sweden in 1885 and it is still a very popular hymn these days.

More on this! I have found the original YouTube video that Bryan Hereford used to 'sync' when playing his keyboards.
The singer is Mick Edwards. Perhaps Bryan Hereford was the accompanist for him when this video was filmed on the Llandudno pier? Mick entertains the public on the Llandudno pier during the summer months.

MICK EDWARDS - Myfanwy / How Great Thou Art

Ken,

Have done some research on this, and hope this is the song you were asking us about.

Myfanwy (a woman's name derived from annwyl, beloved) is a popular Welsh song, composed by Joseph Parry and first published in 1875. Parry wrote the music to lyrics written by Richard Davies ('Mynyddog'; 1833-77). Some sources say it was written with Parry's childhood sweetheart, Myfanwy Llywellyn, in mind, although the lyrics were probably inspired by the fourteenth-century love-story of Myfanwy Fychan of Dinas Brân, Llangollen and the poet Hywel ab Einion.

Myfanwy sung by Ryan Davies (1937 - 1977) as shown at The Tribute To Ryan at Swansea Grand In 2018

I'll leave you to find the English translation for the Welsh lyrics.

The song, although now considered by some rather old-fashioned, is still a favourite with Welsh male voice choirs.
