I like to think that this song is about a young boy who goes out on the Yorkshire Moors in winter, without a hat. I like to think that his mother is very cross and says "Where hast thou been without your hat?" "You naughty boy." But the little boy has been taught to never tell a lie and he replies "On Ilka Moor without a hat"
My mother who was born in Greetland near Halifax , died in Ballarat 63 years ago would probably dispute this story, so I am unable to verify the above. J.T..

A Musician's work is never done. It is the musician's joy and curse.
I love listening to members performances on this forum and I ALWAYS turn off the speakers on my lap top and plug in my headphones.
