Having fun with my Korg Pa600

Postby Mike Bracchi » 28 Mar 2013 09:13

Wotcha folks

Well after three weeks of exploring the Pa600 I can say categorically that it's light years better than my Yammie S900 :) How it compares with the newest S-Series boards from Yamaha - I'm not sure.

I do miss the audio recorder; and when you have fingers like Cumberland sausages the 'touch screen' menus can be a bit of a problem when it comes to mastery

Just wish there were more styles available! I downloaded some Pa3X styles from the bonusware site and they work perfectly on the 600 ...

Is there anywhere I can download the Pa3X internal styles in their entirety? Need to go and 'ferreting' for them I think

All in all I'm well pleased with the Korg, they are no-way as forgiving as the Yamahas and consequently they do take a higher level of accuracy when it comes to playing if you want to get the best from the instrument 8)

Fred, thank you very much for the links ... I wasn't aware of either of those sites so I'm most grateful for them

Many thanks for the styles sent by e-mail also 8) My thanks also to John (jackoj) and Stasys Gelažauskas (T-de-P Facebook) for sharing styles with me 8)

Happy Easter :D

Hello Keith,

My apologies for the delay - I only just read your email this morning  - the email account you sent to was the main site one and I hardly get any messages through on it so I don't often check it ... My address for regular communication is: clarke.m@talktalk.net

Thank you so much for the styles Keith, I will give them a try this evening and let you know how I get on with them ... I purchased a few styles from doo.de (or whatever they are called) in Germany and was very disappointed in them, all previous styles I have had from them for my Yamaha were superb ...

But altogether, I'm very pleased with 600 - it's a great little keyboard for the money.

Once again Keith, I do apologize for the lateness of my thanks and gratitude for the styles :)

All the best,

Mike

Hi Mike. All the best with your PA600, for the price it's a spot on arranger. I've played one and was surprised at the key feel, obviously not their top end, but I liked it better than the S950 that I had and sent back to the shop.

Hi Mike and everyone.

I also have the PA 600. It arrived yesterday. I have to say that for its price it's a real winner. Some of the voices
are even better than a few flagship models. It's gone back to a time when a keyboard just played music
without all the bells and whistles. No mic input (don't need it) No vocal harmoniser (got three already)
Plus a few other things I wouldn't use anyway. These omissions keep the price low, luckily the
voices are top notch. I have an entire library from my old I3 and the styles can play on the PA 600 to
take advantage of the better quality sounds. I would say that anyone looking for a good inexpensive
keyboard, then the PA 600 will fit the bill perfectly.

All the best. Gerry. 8) :D

Here is a link to one of the best finger picking guitars i've ever heard from a keyboard.
I recorded it from the demo on PA 600. Amazing.

Curiosity got the best of me so I ordered these yesterday. I'm happy I did. There are quite a lot of new 'keepers' in there for me. Well worth the $8 spent. There were about a dozen or so 'retreads', but they represent a very small percentage of the total number of styles. I would have paid $8 just to get the XMAS styles. Here are the SETs included (each set has about 40-50 styles)
8 beat- 16 beat
BALLADS
BALLROOM
BOOGIE-ROCK
COUNTRY
DANCE
FUNK-SOUL-BLUES-GOSPEL
JAZZ
LATIN
POP
TRADITIONAL-WORLD
XMAS

That Netherlands site link is spot on, had that one in my favourites for a couple of years and downloaded some Roland styles yesterday.
New keyboard for me too, purchased a Roland BK-9 a couple of days ago. I'll do a write up when I've spent more time with it and have more spare time. I'm busy setting up sounds and samples on my Korg Oasys, for a recording session I have coming up soon.

Hello Gerry,

Congratulations on becoming a PA600 owner, I am sure you will be blown away with it just like I was ... am

I am amazed with it every time I use it .... there have been some useful improvements in the latest OS update, so the Korg PA600 just got better :D
The demo you uploaded is awesome ... the guitars simply 'trash' all other including the Tyros 4 :D
Styles ... wow, no stale old styles on the 600 - the unplugged section has some awesome styles 8)

I look forward to hearing you perform with the Korg in due course Gerry

Hiya Fred,

Thanks for the info and links, I will take a close look at those over the weekend

Wotcha Craig,

Congratulations on becoming a Roland BK-9 owner, I listened to the demo videos that Bill (Abacus) posted a few days ago and it sounds like a super keyboard .... I look forward to your review and maybe hearing you perform on it at some point

All the best.
