Songs/hymns for 24th May 2020

Postby Rev Tony Newnham » 23 May 2020 08:59

Hi

Here's this week's songs & hymns for Wolston Baptist Church, recorded for use during the Coronavirus epidemic. I thought last week was busy with 5 items - there's 6 this week! (To be fair, there are 2 versions of the same song). Enjoy.

First up is a solo organ prelude on the hymn tune Llanfair (Hail the Day that sees Him Rise)

Next is a worship song (what we used to call "choruses") from the 1970's. I hadn't played this for many years. Our minister asked for it on piano, but I thought it would work well on organ too, so I recorded 2 versions, here's the first, on my Viscount Envoy organ.

And the same song on piano (plus a bit of organ from my Viscount Cantorum).

Then a slightly later worship song, King of kings, Majesty

Next up is a hymn that I'd not come across before. From what I saw on the web, it probably comes from the Salvation Army (which is where Neil, our minister, knows it from). The tune is Lloyd - and you can just imagine a brass band playing it. Here, thugh, it's on my Viscount Envoy digital organ.

And finally, a late addition to the mix is a Graham Kendrick song. Played here just on piano (Kord SP 180)

Guess who's going to have a lazy day today!

Every Blessing

Tony

Hi Tony. You certainly should take the day off. A splendid performance. I don’t know any of them but enjoyed my Sunday morning listen after my visit to the allotment. Keep safe. John

Thanks for the comments.

Except on rare occasions, someone else chooses the music, so I don't have much say - one of this week's I hadn't played for a very long time, and the hymn was one I'd never come across (although I know the tune). As to instruments, I try & use whatever I have available that best suits the style of the music.

Every Blessing
