Music for Palm Sunday 2021 at Wolston

Postby Rev Tony Newnham » 26 Mar 2021 15:03

Hi

Here's this Sunday's selection. I'm rather disappointed that our preacher this week hasn't chosen any traditional Easter hymns - the closest is Graham Kendrick's "Make Way". I do play an organ interpretation of "Ride on, Ride on in majesty" though, and, by request, a reprise of "God so loved the world" from a couple of weeks ago. Church is reopening on Sunday, so I'll be playing these live - but still no singing allowed.

The opening hymn is Graham Kendrick's "Make Way".

Next comes a more recent worship song. I've had to learn both this and the next one!

Next up is a worship song from the Hillsong group of churches. It's interesting trying to unravel the music for this, as there are multiple repeats etc. And rather a lot of syncopated timing!

The service closes with a classic Graham Kendrick worship song

Finally, by request, a reprise of "God so loved the world" from Stainer's Crucifixion". This is the version I recorded a couple of weeks back on my folding Harmonium. I'll play it on the Content digital organ at church on Sunday.

Every Blessing

Tony

Beautiful hymns and pleasant to hear. Again the beauty of the Harmonium sound appears. Congratulations Reverend

Hi Tony. Another interesting Sunday morning listen. I wasn’t familiar with any apart from the first one. Liked that piano and the harmonium. Thanks for post lots of work went into these. Keep safe and well. John

Thanks John

I wasn't familiar with 2 of the songs either until I got the hymn list last Tuesday! They were a bit of a nightmare to sort out - the notation in the "Songs of Fellowship" books isn't always as clear as it should be. Add to that the "off beat" nature of a lot of the melody lines, and a whole load of repeats, some nested together, in "Worthy is the Lamb" it was rather a lengthy recording session last Wednesday!

I'll hopefully be recording the music for Good Friday later today - at least it's more straightforward!

Every Blessing

Tony
