The Story Of My Life - January 2022 Challenge

Postby Hugh-AR » 06 Jan 2022 00:27

When a Challenge is 'anything you like', you are not aiming to find a piece that fits certain criteria, so the choice of what to put up is limitless. I have pieces recorded on my AR80 and my Tyros 4; classical, foxtrots, latin etc. .. so which one to pick? Maybe something that was so difficult to play that when I finally managed to record it without a mistake it was an achievement.

But one thing I have always remembered is something Brian007 has said many, many times. When you play something, follow the KISS principle.
Keep It Simple See.

So that is what I am going for.

The Story Of My Life.

I am using the Warm Grand piano with a touch of Whisper Gallery for the melody.
I always like a LEFT HAND VOICE, and for this am using Dark Fat Saw.

In between the melody phrases I have put a Whistle. This is in a MULTIPAD which has been programmed to follow the RHYTHM (ie. REPEAT = ON) but not the chord I am playing with my left hand (ie. CHORD MATCH = OFF).

Then for the Chorus I have used STYLE CREATOR to remove the Bass PART of the Slowfox STYLE and have put in a 'walking bass'; and have removed PHRASE 1 and put in a 'repeating piano'.

Is all this 'keeping it simple'? If you know what you want and know how to do it then the answer is 'yes'. The important thing is .. it is simple to listen to. I used to have a friend who loved 50s/60s music because he used to say you can hear what each instrument is playing.

Thanks for posting that, know it well now.
About the kiss!!!
"What do you get when you kiss a girl?
You get enough germs to get pneumonia
Then she'll never phone yah."
Blah Blah Blah.

Have not had the courage to record that yet. :D

This is the song that Den is referring to (but kissing a guy, not a girl).

I’ll Never Fall In Love Again ~ Dion Warwick

When the advert appears across the middle of the screen click the white X in the top right hand corner of the advert.

Den .. when kissing a girl, the same principle applies. Keep It Simple See.

Brian007 .. Thank you for your comments. I have to say that your playing has been an inspiration to me ever since I joined the Forum. You always pick up those little extras that you can hear in a song and pop them into your music. You always did this by what you called MULTITRACKING. And I don't mean loads and loads of multitracking so you end up with a Frank Sinatra Big Band. It was always some simple little counter melody. I like to do the same.

JohnT .. Thanks for your comment. I always say just enjoy playing what you're comfortable with. No need to try the keyboard's technology just because it is there.

Hi there Hugh,
That was a pleasant performance well played I enjoyed listening you did it justice my good friend. :D :D :D

Jon D. :) :)
Hi there I have played from the age of 13 and all my music is played in a sort of dance tempo style. Have worked in nearly all the North East clubs over the years. That gave me a good grounding. Cheers.
