Strings certainly "tug at the heart strings"

Why does music tug at your heart strings?
This is a beautiful story written by a parent who’s not musically inclined but finds himself at a middle school solo and ensemble festival for his daughter. He describes himself as an advanced mathematics expert that has an understanding of physics. He has tried to learn how to perform music several times in his life, but he just doesn’t get it. He is curious how music pulls at his heart strings and evokes strong memories of things he wouldn’t have normally remembered. He queries how a physical vibrations that create sound waves can evoke such strong emotional reactions? There is some psychology and neuroscience that can start to answer this.

Lots of interesting things pique my interest. I especially like looking at posts using audio.com. I listened and looked at Hugh's entry in the Challenge today using Firefox and then I went to Google Chrome and although the sound was identical I found the layout more pleasing. I'm not sure why Firefox doesn't show a graph and a picture. J.T.

A Musician's work is never done. It is the musician's joy and curse.
I love listening to members performances on this forum and I ALWAYS turn off the speakers on my lap top and plug in my headphones.
