Is This The Way To Amarillo.

This was sung originally by Tony Christie, but the first time I heard it was when Neil Sedaka played it at the Royal Albert Hall. Neil Sedaka accompanies this song on a Grand Piano. Loved that sound, so I wanted to do the same. At the time, I just had my AR80 organ, so it seemed a good idea to set the Lower Manual up as a Grand Piano from top tp bottom and play the accompaniment with both hands. Below is a DEMO of what I managed to do.

Then having recorded the accompaniment right through from beginning to end, play that back and whilst listening, record the melody on the Upper Manual (you can do that with the AR80 organ).

Here is the result.

Piano accompaniment is not in STEREO .. but then I don't reckon Neil Sedaka's is either.

Thirty years ago I thought Neil Sedaka had a wonderful voice. I listened to him sing lots of songs on casette with good Amplifier and good speakers. But I think my musical tastes must have changed. To-day, I listened to the youtube clip you suggested in your post [through my same Amp and Speakers] and switched off half way through because his voice was discordant to my ears. I admit that 20 years ago I did NOT own Hearing Aids , and that to-day I had them in my ears.

JT,

Pity you didn't listen to the rest of the Neil Sedaka video. The whole idea of putting up videos from YouTube is to create a bit more interest to the topic. This video is one of the best audio recordings I have ever heard, and being in the Royal Albert Hall, the 'reverb' is second to none. You also completely missed Tony Christie (who originally sang this song) coming on stage and singing it .. and the two of them singing part of the song in harmony together. From the response they got, the audience of the Royal Albert Hall were obviously enthralled by what they had been part of that evening.

Barwonfan was correct, another 5 minutes and that piano would have been in bits. Den.

Hi there I have played from the age of 13 and all my music is played in a sort of dance tempo style. Have worked in nearly all the North East clubs over the years. That gave me a good grounding. Cheers.
